Established in 1964, this family-owned business has been crafting mokugyo (wooden percussion instruments) for three generations. With decades of experience, they have mastered the art of creating these wooden instruments.
Each mokugyo is carved from a single piece of wood, without any joining or gluing, preserving the natural integrity of the material and ensuring a rich, resonant sound. The intricate carvings, often featuring traditional motifs like dragons and fish, are meticulously hand-carved, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
When struck, a mokugyo produces a combination of sounds that resonate within its hollow body. These sounds either echo internally or reach the ear directly. A balanced delay between the sounds creates a unified, harmonious tone, while excessive delay can result in dissonant, unpleasant noise.
The production process stays true to time-honored methods, blending traditional techniques with skilled handcrafting. Premium woods such as camphor and mulberry are carefully selected to ensure the highest quality and durability of each instrument.
