Kazan Kiln
Established in 1897, Kazan is nestled at the foot of Mount Sanage in Aichi Prefecture. Using locally sourced pottery clay, the kiln has dedicated itself to crafting products that are deeply rooted in everyday life. Located in Seto, a region renowned for its rich history and tradition of ceramics, Kazan works tirelessly to preserve and pass on the unique techniques, knowledge, and heartfelt craftsmanship cultivated by generations of artisans.
To bring the joy and beauty of pottery closer to people, Kazan organizes on-site pottery workshops. As the kiln evolves from a traditional ceramic manufacturing business into a service-oriented operation, it remains committed to preserving traditional techniques while adapting to modern demands.
When Kazan Kiln first began, it focused on producing tiles and everyday household items. Today, it specializes in crafting commercial tableware for Japanese cuisine and Buddhist ceremonial vessels. Since its current master artisan earned the title of Traditional Craftsman, Kazan has actively hosted pottery classes. In addition to the traditional Seto Sometsuke (blue-and-white Seto ware) techniques, recognized as a traditional craft, Kazan shares its extensive expertise to inspire a deeper appreciation for pottery among a broader audience.
