Tamura Sekizai is a long-established stonework shop with over a century of history. Located in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture—known as the "Stone Capital"—the company specializes in producing and selling Okazaki stone products, which have been recognized as a traditional Japanese craft. These products, crafted from premium-quality granite, are renowned for their exceptional hardness and resistance to weathering. The rich tradition and refined techniques of Okazaki stone craftsmanship, which date back to the Muromachi period (1338–1573) and were firmly established during the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1574–1600), have been faithfully passed down through generations.

To preserve and advance the local stonework culture that has flourished as a regional industry in Okazaki, Tamura Sekizai continuously hones its craftsmanship. The durable granite lends itself to a wide range of applications. While the term "Okazaki stone products" encompasses a variety of items, it includes everything from millstones and mochi-pounding mortars to torii gates, lanterns, tamagaki (balustrades), chozubachi (water basins), gravestones, stone statues, and paving stones. Stoneworking is a deeply intricate craft; as each piece is shaped, the process gradually reveals whether the stone's grain and crystalline structure will result in a flawless product.
